Shishaldin Image Gallery - April 17, 1999 photos

The following photographs were taken by Dave Schneider (AVO - USGS) on April 17, 1999, from an Alaska State Trooper airplane. Infrared images (coming soon) also taken on this flight indicate that low-level strombolian fire-fountaining is occurring beneath the steam. These photographs were taken less than two days before the onset of the eruption of April 19, which sent a plume to 30,000' above sea level.
