Cleveland Weekly Update issued May 9, 2008 13:34 AKDT - Volcano Alert Level ADVISORY - Aviation Color Code YELLOW

Over the past two weeks, an increasing number of thermal anomalies observed in satellite images suggests that unrest at Cleveland Volcano has intensified. A small, low-altitude (less than 15,000ft) discrete ash cloud was observed in satellite images beginning Wednesday evening from 4:00PM AKDT, May 7 (0000UTC, May 8) until about 11:00PM AKDT, May 7 (0700UTC, May 8). A ship north of Nikolski reported a dusting of ash around the same time. No other ash clouds have been observed since Wednesday . ...

Cleveland Status Report issued May 7, 2008 11:16 AKDT - Volcano Alert Level ADVISORY - Aviation Color Code YELLOW

Clouds obscured satellite views of Cleveland Volcano last night. AVO has received no other information about activity at Cleveland in the last 24 hours.AVO monitors Cleveland Volcano with satellite imagery as weather allows. The lack of a real-time seismic network at Cleveland means that AVO is unable to track local earthquake activity related to volcanic unrest. Short-lived explosions of ash that could exceed 20,000 ft above sea level can occur without warning and may go undetected on ...

Veniaminof VAN issued May 3, 2008 08:03 AKDT - Volcano Alert Level NORMAL - Aviation Color Code GREEN

Though still above past background levels, the intensity and rate of seismicity at Veniaminof has declined over the last several weeks. Activity at the intracaldera cone currently consists of intermittent, low-level steam emissions. No ash emissions nor elevated surface temperatures have been observed in satellite data or webcam imagery since early March 2008. Based on these observations, AVO concludes that significant volcanic activity is not likely to occur in the near future and is ...

Veniaminof Weekly Update issued May 2, 2008 11:01 AKDT - Volcano Alert Level ADVISORY - Aviation Color Code YELLOW

Seismic activity has declined over the last few weeks at Veniaminof, but still remains above background. Intermittent low-leveling steaming from the intracaldera cone was observed in web cam imagery throughout the week. No ash has been seen at Veniaminof since early March.AVO will continue to monitor activity at Mount Veniaminof using seismic data, satellite images, internet camera data and observer reports.
