Description: From Reeder (1990): "Steve Shivers of the U.S. Geological Survey noted a volcanic eruption plume from the Great Sitkin region on a satellite image from March 18, 1989. Lieutenant Jeffrey Sullivan noted orange flame in the direction of Great Sitkin just before midnight on March 18, 1987. Pilot Guy Morgan, observed minor steam emissions from Great Sitkin just prior to March 18, but such activity is common for Great Sitkin. 'Because no anomalous features could be detected on the Great Sitkin volcano as observed by numerous commercial pilots following the above reported eruptive activity, it is concluded that the Great Sitkin eruptive activity probably occurred at the active NW near summit dome.'"
