Jump to event:

Friday June 7, 1912 11:30 PM

Just before midnight on the night of June 7, 1912, the largest and third largest earthquakes of the eruption occur with magnitudes of 7.0 and 6.8. Based on the rate of seismic energy release, it is likely that much of the collapse of Mount Katmai occurred during the night of June 7-8 (Abe, 1992 and Hildreth and Fierstein, 2012).
