AVO VOLCANO ACTIVITY NOTIFICATION

ALASKA VOLCANO OBSERVATORY INFORMATION STATEMENT
U.S. Geological Survey
Friday, October 3, 2008, 4:42 PM AKDT (Saturday, October 4, 2008, 00:42 UTC)

REDOUBT VOLCANO (VNUM #313030)
60°29'7" N 152°44'38" W, Summit Elevation 10197 ft (3108 m)
Current Volcano Alert Level: NORMAL
Current Aviation Color Code: GREEN

This morning AVO released an Information Statement describing minor unrest at Redoubt Volcano. In the hours since that release, AVO has detected weak but anomalous volcanic seismicity at Redoubt. At this time, seismic amplitude remains very low. AVO still expects a significant increase in seismic activity well in advance of an eruption. The current level of volcanic activity at Redoubt, though slightly above background, is still small enough to remain at aviation color code GREEN and alert level NORMAL.
