ALASKA VOLCANO OBSERVATORY STATUS REPORT
U.S. Geological Survey
Wednesday, February 25, 2009, 12:10 PM AKST (Wednesday, February 25, 2009, 21:10 UTC)
REDOUBT VOLCANO
(VNUM #313030)
60°29'7" N 152°44'38" W,
Summit Elevation 10197 ft (3108 m)
Current Volcano Alert Level: WATCH
Current Aviation Color Code:
ORANGE
Unrest at Redoubt Volcano continues. No eruption has occurred. Volcanic tremor continues and has changed little over the past 24 hours. Intermittent discrete but small earthquakes also continue at a rate of several per hour with a relative increase beginning around 10AM AKST this morning. A broad spectrum seismic signal at 9:29AM AKST is likely associated with a small flowage deposit originating from a melt hole in the Drift Glacier at about 5600 feet above sea level. Clear web camera images (Hut webcam) this morning suggest that this deposit was emplaced sometime between 9:08AM and 10:03AM AKST. No other unusual activity was observed in the web cameras this morning.
AVO continues to monitor Redoubt Volcano closely, and the observatory is staffed 24 hours a day.
CLEVELAND VOLCANO
(VNUM #311240)
52°49'20" N 169°56'42" W,
Summit Elevation 5676 ft (1730 m)
Current Volcano Alert Level: ADVISORY
Current Aviation Color Code:
YELLOW
AVO has received no reports of activity at Cleveland in the 24 hours. Cloudy conditions have obscured satellite view today. Low-level ash emissions may occur with little or no warning.
