ALASKA VOLCANO OBSERVATORY STATUS REPORT
U.S. Geological Survey
Wednesday, April 29, 2009, 1:06 PM AKDT (Wednesday, April 29, 2009, 21:06 UTC)
REDOUBT VOLCANO
(VNUM #313030)
60°29'7" N 152°44'38" W,
Summit Elevation 10197 ft (3108 m)
Current Volcano Alert Level: WATCH
Current Aviation Color Code:
ORANGE
The eruption of Redoubt volcano continues. Seismic activity remains elevated and has changed little over the past 24 hours. Satellite views show a thermal anomaly consistent with the presence of an actively growing lava dome. Occasional small rock avalanches are occurring off the north side of the lava dome and these are producing some seismicity and minor low level ash emissions but only in the immediate vicinity of the volcano. Web camera views show a diffuse steam plume rising to about the summit of the volcano.
Additional explosive events producing ash clouds, ash fall, and mudflows are possible and can occur with little or no warning. AVO is maintaining 24/7 operations in order to quickly detect renewed significant explosive activity and other hazardous phenomena.
CLEVELAND VOLCANO
(VNUM #311240)
52°49'20" N 169°56'42" W,
Summit Elevation 5676 ft (1730 m)
Current Volcano Alert Level: ADVISORY
Current Aviation Color Code:
YELLOW
AVO received no reports of activity at Cleveland during the past 24 hours. No unusual activity has been observed in mostly clear satellite views.
