AVO VOLCANO ACTIVITY NOTIFICATION

ALASKA VOLCANO OBSERVATORY STATUS REPORT
U.S. Geological Survey
Sunday, September 20, 2009, 1:43 PM AKDT (Sunday, September 20, 2009, 21:43 UTC)

REDOUBT VOLCANO (VNUM #313030)
60°29'7" N 152°44'38" W, Summit Elevation 10197 ft (3108 m)
Current Volcano Alert Level: ADVISORY
Current Aviation Color Code: YELLOW

No significant activity has been detected at Redoubt during the past 24 hours. Clouds obscured the volcano in web camera views this morning. The lava dome in the summit crater is gradually cooling, and it is possible that the dome could collapse, but the likelihood of this is declining over time. A major dome collapse event could result in significant ash production, hot block-and-ash flows, and flooding in the Drift River valley.

Although the AVO operations center is no longer staffed 24/7, AVO continues to monitor the volcano on a 24/7 basis using an alarm system that alerts on-call staff of potential unrest.

SHISHALDIN VOLCANO (VNUM #311360)
54°45'19" N 163°58'16" W, Summit Elevation 9373 ft (2857 m)
Current Volcano Alert Level: ADVISORY
Current Aviation Color Code: YELLOW

Seismic activity at Shishaldin remains low. Clouds have obscured the volcano in satellite and web camera images. AVO has received no additional observations or information about activity at Shishaldin.
