The summit crater of Mount Cleveland. The small depression in the central lava dome was likely formed during an explosion earlier in the year (possibly in May). The incandescent (red hot) rocks in the base of the pit suggests temperatures over 500 degrees C. These rocks are kept hot at the surface by super heated gases venting through the summit dome .
