Field photos from the Northern Mariana Islands (NMI) hydrophone deployment. Three hydrophones were deployed ~70 miles northwest of Saipan in ~4000m of water on June 20. A fourth hydrophone was deployed on June 17 with all arranged in a diamond shaped array. Work was done off the vessel the Peregrine (Pacific Marine Enterprises) in collaboration with NOAA and with assistance from the NMI Emergency Management Office. The hydrophones will record signals from submarine volcanoes, earthquakes, and other natural and man-made sources for about one year.
