Aerial view of Augustine Volcano from the south-southwest. The West Island debris-avalanche deposit (left side of image) was created by summit/flank failure less than 500 years BP. At least 13 debris-avalanche deposits younger than about 2200 yr BP have been recognized on Augustine Island, the youngest being the 1883 Burr Point deposit.
