SAMPLE INFO : 91CNI28i
Sample ID:91CNI28i
Station ID:91CNI28i
Latitude:59.99421
Longitude:-153.16787
Datum:NAD83
Date Sampled:1991-01-01
Sample Type 1:Lava
Sample Type 2:Enclave/Inclusion
Text Description:
Basaltic andesite magmatic inclusion. 10% phenocrysts of plagioclase and pyroxene. Groundmass is dominantly crystalline and consists of 30 x 200 micron plagioclase laths, 150 micron pyroxene, opaque oxides, and subordinate clear glass. Irregular voids largely bounded by crystals are abundant. One of several diverse lithologies collected from single location consisting of avalanche debris sitting on top of Umbrella Glacier at ~2200 foot elevation. Location implies these all came from Iliamna, central peak. "i" denotes fist-sized rounded blobs of macroscopically different magma enclosed in homogeneous host.
