Text Description: Sample of Cape Kigushimkada rift lavas. Glomeroporphyritic basaltic andesite. <10% plagioclase glomerocrysts up to 1 mm diameter composed of several plagioclase crystals each (0.6 x 0.4 mm). 90% groundmass composted of plagioclase laths (350 x 90 microns) with intersertal pyroxene in a hypocrystalline matrix. Plagioclase phenocrysts and laths are free of dusty, inclusion rich zone. Plagioclase laths commonly have swallowtail terminations. References: ![]() |
