Text Description:
Sample from isolated 130 m high hill southeast of Cape Kigushimkada. Outcrop consists of highly jointed andesite with 4-6cm columns with steep landward dip. Note: this hill incorrectly shown as Tdp on map of Byers (1959). Glomeroporphyritic andesite. 20 vol. % plagioclase glomerocrysts up to 3 mm diameter (individual crystals 1 x 0.4 mm); 2 % pyroxene phenocrysts (0.8 x 0.5 mm); <1% opaque oxides (0.4 mm); 75% trachytic hypocrystalline groundmass (plagioclase microlites 200 x 30 microns; intersertal pyroxene; dark reddish brown glass). Plagioclase phenocrysts contain scattered rounded inclusions up to 50 microns in diameter, but are free of dusty, reacted zones.
