Text Description:
Felsic portion of a large piece of banded scoria, total initial sample weight 5 kg. 15% light colored bands, 85% dark colored bands. Light bands up to 2 cm thick, hosted in the dark portions. Light bands shear down to sub-mm streaks (smaller than individual phenocrysts). The light portion is 15% gray throughout, with a very minor pinkish tinge on the outsides. 20% plagioclase, 1-3mm; <5% pyroxene 0.5 to 1mm; very light gray microcrystalline groundmass with abundant angular and irregular voids down to <<1 mm.
