Text Description:
Flow from the top brecciated unit at Site 12. Fine grained, vesicular, hypocrystalline, intersertal, seriate to glomeroporphyritic with a matrix of mesostasis, brown glass, opaque, microlites, orthopyroxene, and plagioclase. Plagioclase phenocrysts (An31-An63) are up to 3.25 mm, may have sieve textured cores or occasionally rims, and normal or oscillatory zoning. Olivine phenocrysts are up to 2.05 mm, although most are <0.4 mm, some have small orthopyroxene crystals surrounding the olivine. Orthopyroxene is up to 0.7 mm and some display clinopyroxene rims. Mode: 59.0% matrix, 33.2% plagioclase, 0.1% olivine, 0.5% clinopyroxene, 6.6% orthopyroxene.
