Text Description:
Blocky outcrop below 95SJP10 that is 20' thick with an upper rubble zone at Site 8. Fine grained, holocrystalline, seriate porphyritic with a matrix of mesostasis, opaque, plagioclase, clinopyroxene, orthopyroxene and altered patches. Plagioclase phenocrysts (An39-An61) are up to 1.62 mm and frequently sieve textured zones; oscillatory zoning is common, normal zoning is less common. Clinopyroxene phenocrysts are up to 1.4 mm. Olivine phenocrysts are up to 0.45 mm. Orthopyroxene phenocrysts are up to 0.95 mm and often have thick clinopyroxene rims; occasionally have opaque inclusions. Mode: 61.9% matrix, 31.7% plagioclase, 3.5% olivine, 2.3% clinopyroxene, 0.3% orthopyroxene, 0.3% vesicles.
