Text Description:
Dike trending S35E at Site 9. Fine-grained, vesicular, diktytaxitic, holocrystalline, intergranular, seriate porphyritic with a matrix of mesostasis, opaque, clinopyroxene and plagioclase. Plagioclase phenocrysts (An34-An59) are up to 2.25 and the larger phenocrysts have sieved textured zones, tooth-like overgrowth rims or resorbed rims, oscillatory zoning, and pyroxene inclusion, while smaller grains display normal zoning. Olivine phenocrysts are up to 1.2 mm and some are slightly altered, resorbed edges are common, and a few have opaque inclusions. Clinopyroxene phenocrysts are up to 0.95 mm and a few have orthopyroxene cores. Orthopyroxene is up to 0.3 mm and altered. Mode: 63.0% matrix, 24.4% plagioclase, 2.0% olivine, 1.8% clinopyroxene, 0.3% orthopyroxene, 0.4% alteration, 8.1% vesicles.
