SAMPLE INFO : 93SJP38B
Sample ID:93SJP38B
Station ID:93SJP38B
Latitude:62.44323839
Longitude:-143.1246
Datum:NAD83
Date Sampled:1993-00-00
Sample Type 1:Tephra Fall
Sample Type 2:Agglutinate
Field Lithology:Andesite
Text Description:
Agglutinate from immediately above the lahar/pyroclastic flow at Site 5. The very base of the unit nA1. Fine-grained, vesicular, intersertal, hypocrystalline, seriate matrix of dark brown glass and skeletal plagioclase. There are rare granular masses of pyroxene. Plagioclase phenocrysts (An27 - An59) are up to 1.5 mm and some have complex zoning and/or sieve textured zones, many have tooth-like overgrowths, some have rounded rims. Orthopyroxene phenocrysts are up to 1.25 mm and occasionally have clinopyroxene rims or rarely have brown glass embayments, some are sieve textured, and some appear to have grown around or partially around plagioclase grains. Clinopyroxene phenocrysts are up to 0.3 mm.
