Text Description:
Approximately 10’ thick, plagioclase phyric flow at Site 12. Fine grained, vesicular, hypocrystalline, intersertal, weakly intergranular, seriate to glomeroporphyritic with a matrix of brown glass, opaque, plagioclase (An26), clinopyroxene and orthopyroxene (some with clinopyroxene rims). Plagioclase phenocrysts (An26 - An55) are up to 5.75 mm and commonly have sieve textured zones, complex zoning and overgrowth rims. Olivine phenocrysts are up to 1.0 mm and have rims of small orthopyroxene crystals. Orthopyroxene phenocrysts are up to 1.5 mm and a few have clinopyroxene rims. Clinopyroxene phenocrysts are up to 1.0 mm and one grain has an overgrowth? rim of small clinopyroxene crystals.
