Text Description:
Large plates in an outcrop above red scoria. Laterally to the west of 94SJP80A at Site 9. Fine-grained, holocrystalline, seriate to glomeroporphyritic with a matrix of cryptocrystalline material, opaque and plagioclase. Plagioclase phenocrysts (An39 - An64) are 2.6-0.1 mm and have sieve textured zones, complex zoning, and occasionally have resorption embayments or poikilitic pyroxene inclusions. Orthopyroxene phenocrysts are up to 0.7 mm and sometimes contain a clinopyroxene core. Clinopyroxene phenocrysts are up to 1 mm and frequently occurs as inclusions in orthopyroxene or plagioclase, twinning is common. Opaque phenocrysts are up to 0.2 mm. 76.6% matrix, 19.6% plagioclase, 1.2% clinopyroxene, 2.4% orthopyroxene, 0.2% opaque.
