Text Description:
Rubbly outcrop 50 - 60’ thick at the top of Site 8. Visually appears to line up with 93SJP5 across the valley at Site 9. Fine grained, holocrystalline, porphyritic with a matrix of cryptocrystalline material and opaque. Plagioclase phenocrysts (An38 - An58) are up to 2.62 mm and frequently have oscillatory zoning and occasionally normal zoning. Orthopyroxene phenocrysts are up to 0.6 mm and often have opaque inclusions, and occasionally have sieve textured zones or resorption embayments. Amphibole phenocrysts are up to 0.45 mm with green-red pleochroism and opaque corona. Opaque phenocrysts are up to 0.35 mm. 84.6% matrix, 13.1% plagioclase, 1.0% orthopyroxene, 1.3% opaque.
