Slow eruption of lava in the summit crater of Great Sitkin Volcano continues. Seismicity was low over the past day with about 20 small earthquakes detected. Satellite and webcam views were mostly cloudy.

The current lava flow began erupting in July 2021. No explosive events have occurred since a single event in May 2021.

Local seismic and infrasound sensors and web cameras are used to monitor Great Sitkin along with regional infrasound and lightning networks and satellite data.

Low-level unrest continues at Shishaldin Volcano. A few small earthquakes were seen at Shishaldin over the past day.  Clear webcam views showed very minor steaming at the summit. Clear satellite views showed no activity.

No significant eruptive activity has been observed since November 2023.

Local seismic and infrasound sensors, web cameras, and a geodetic network are used to monitor Shishaldin Volcano. In addition to the local monitoring network, AVO uses nearby geophysical networks, regional infrasound and lighting data, and satellite images to detect eruptions.

A small, short-lived explosion was detected at the Atka volcanic complex this evening at 19:36 AKDT March 27 (03:36 UTC March 28), and AVO is increasing the Aviation Color Code to YELLOW and the Volcano Alert Level to ADVISORY.  The event was detected in local infrasound and seismic data and was followed by a few minutes of elevated seismic tremor. Processing of the local infrasound data indicates the explosion originated from the summit crater of Korovin, one of several volcanoes within the Atka volcanic complex. No ash emissions have been observed in satellite images.
