Shrub 2017/10

From Cameron and others, 2023: "In the fall of 2017, a new eruption began low on the southeast flank of Shrub mud volcano, discharging a mud flow that wrapped around the south side of the base of the cone. This was the first new activity observed at Shrub mud volcano since the late 1990s and marked its first flank eruption since 1996, when a pilot reported seeing mud erupting from a vent low on the north flank of the volcano. Satellite imagery indicates that the 2017 activity began sometime between October 16 and October 20 and continued for several months, but given the poor quality of available imagery, it is equally likely that the event comprised two or more eruption episodes separated by pauses. A comparison between the mud flow extent visible in high-quality satellite imagery from June 2018 and helicopter overflight photos taken in June 2019 indicates that the eruption continued after June 2018."
