The October 3, 2023 eruption of Shishaldin volcano viewed from the northwest. The ash cloud from the eruption is extending away from the volcano to the southeast while steam emissions continue from the crater. Steam and dark deposits on the flanks are from hot pyroclastic flows and lahars that flowed down the sides of the volcano.
